What I think about movie “Sultan”

The movie “Sultan” is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and producer is Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj films. It released in 2016. Main roll is by Salman Khan, and Anuska Sharma work as female protagonist. This is very popular film among the people.

Here I try to red it with feminine view or perspective. When I was watching this movie, I remember one Gujarati proverb or idiom is that “Ek Safal Purush ni Pachal Hamesh ek Stree no Hath Hoy Che.” It means there is woman stand behind the every successful man. Women always support and also sacrifice for happiness and success of her husband, son, and father.

During the first screening of movie, we can see that when Alfa meet Sultan. Sultan is nothing; he is just like street boy, and his job as Dish T.V. worker. But when Alfa meet him, and ask him who are you? What is your gal or aim of life? At the same time she has aim in her life. She wants to be state champion in Kushti. Also want to take part in Olympic Games. After that warble fight with Alfa there is huge storm in mind of Sultan. He started thinking on that duration; yes I won’t have any gall in my life. Then he decided to be “Pahelvan” (wrestler). Then Alfa also help him to be wrestler, and achieve state championship. He also became world champion after getting marriage with Alfa. Both are working and champion also.

My point is that when they have applied for world championship. At that time Alfa become pregnant. Her life is totally changed. She has her own dreams but because of her husband’s happiness she has to do sacrifice. She leaves her dream to fulfill the dream of her husband. We found that there is deep very reflect in her father’s talk. Because her father also wishes that he have one boy child and he want to make him world champion. But mother of Alfa gives birth to girl child. Her father wants to make her also champion. He thinks that is she becomes pregnant then she is not able to participate in championship. Alfa have to fulfill her dream, and then she has to do abortion. But she looks at the happiness on the face of her husband. She leaves her dream to be world champion.

She does sacrifice for hue husband. But Sultan never thinks about that sacrifice and happiness of Alfa. He only thinks about his success and dreaming about the birth of his ‘Boy child’. Even at the ending part we can see that it is motivation of Alfa give him carriage and strength to fight and win.

When we think about that Gujarati idiom, Alfa is responsible for the success of Sultan. Without Alfa, Sultan is not ‘The Sultan’ she gives him right path of life. Her argument and fight lead him towards his success and make him famous. Alfa plays very vital role in the life of Sultan and his journey of wrestling. But the name of the movie is ‘Sultan’ based on the name of hero of the movie. No doubt that it is Sultan’s hard work but for this he needs some direction which is given by Alfa. Alfa shows right path for heard working. But in this mail dominant Indian society, nobody notes this sacrifice of women. Because it is very common among the Indian people, because it is condition of mind of both male and female that women has do sacrifice for family and husband. They think what is new in this thing. Every Indian not only India but in the world women are doing sacrifice, it is with different name. It happened some time women don’t want to do this kind of sacrifice. But society makes women “an idol of sacrifice” (Tyagni Murti).

In India we found that all people are equal but still people cannot accept LGBT or gay people. They are also human; they also have right to live as other normal people are living life. They also want to work but people cannot accept them as human they are known as “Other”. But now we found that these people are also think about them and started accept them and we found that in many movie, drama they get chance to perform. Like in Gujarati Drama “Parnela cho to Himat Rakhjo” we found that a gay person is working, it is right that in this drama this person is for humor. But is good that they get chance to work in drama. We found that in many movies like “Kal ho na ho”, “Dostana”, “Kapoor and Sons” and many other this people are working. People respond with such a comedy at the knowledge that his son or daughter belongs to LGBT.

          Now a day we found that people are accepting this kind of children, people cannot feel ashamed to say he/she is my son or daughter. 

Cricket In India

Cricket is become religion in India. Cricketers became like god for Indian people. It is right that Hooky is our national game. Cricket is gift by British people or it is national game of England. When we think about colonial or postcolonial aspect we found that how our mind is controlled by colonial people. We found that national game of England is more popular in India, which is once colonized by people of England. So, indirectly cricket is anti-national thing. How conditioning of mind or effect of colonization is still found in mind of Indian people. In past time people think that British people are superior, now game of cricket is become superior than our national game because it is national game of superior people. We can say that Hockey is national game of India and Cricket is “Religion” game of India.

        Now a days we found that so many fight for cricket, many people constantly set near the T.V. on the days of cricket, even in exam time we found that student are also watching cricket on T.V. I never understand that why people are watching and enjoying game of cricket. (It is also right that I can’t understand it, and I am not agents of game of cricket). On the days of cricket match we found crowd of people not working, they only see cricket and it is like public holy days in the days of cricket.

        I think that it is also impact of globalization, it is right that we have to become liberal and accept everything from other nation. But we have to give respect to out things also, Indian people are playing or enjoying cricket but people have to give respect and play hockey also. We found that some children don’t know about hockey, how to play hockey? Hockey is our national game. It is very shameful for Indian people.

How Literature Make me Different

           

  It was amazing journey of last five year with literature. Since last five year I’m trying to understand what is literature? Still I think that I cannot understand it in proper sense. Because literature is very broad, it is very difficult to define what is literature. It is like huge mountain and I have understood little stone of it. There is nobody, who understand it full, yes; it is right everybody can see it but no one understand it properly. When I take admission in M.A. at that time Dr. Dilip Barad (H.O.D. of Department of English) ask to write about what is literature? Whatever I have written it is very terrible for me now. Whatever I have written is not my words and understanding. I have just written what is literature? but it is told by other people.

            Literature gives view to see what is human and humanity. Humans are important rather than religious. It fights and rewards against money and power. Through literature I read so many people, Different culture and ritual of different county and region.  Literature is mirror of society rather we can says it is x-ray image of society. Literature is path shower, it is past and learning from past we can improve our present and make future bright. It is right that history repeats but we can get path from literature. When we think about concept of history how it represent in literature. There is good example given by Julian Barn in his work “Sense of an Ending”. What he says, history is all about memory and it is written after event. History is like “onion Sandwich”.

            Literature gives spark and new idea to looking towards world. It provokes us to think rationally not emotionally. The concept of existentialism and death is found in ‘Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett. What we are doing in our life is totally absurdity. This play change my idea regarding death and suicide, after studying this play I remember one poem I don’t remember the name of writer, poem is ‘Death be Not Proud”. How our life is absurd there is nothing in play. Same there is nothing in our life also. But ‘there is something in nothing’. We are waiting for death; death is ultimate truth of human life. The concept of suicide is also found in ‘Scenes of an Ending’, philosophical death and freedom of individual. There is ‘Unrest’, ‘Great Unrest’,  after reading literature there is same thing happen in my life there is ‘ unrest, great unrest’ in my mind also.

            Thorough the character of Hamlet I understand that not only thinking but doing is also important. Whereas from the character of ‘Othello’ I learn that without thinking don’t do anything. In short both are impotent at their place. When time comes you have to take right decision, what is the time for, thinking and doing. From the ‘Harry Potter’ I learnt one thing that there is no one is come from anywhere to help you, but it is you, who is biggest helper of yourself. First I’m also thinking about help as Dumbledore is thinking about help, ‘help is given to whom, who asks for it. But in reality help is given to whom, who deserve it.’ You are savior of your life and yourself.

            Now I come to know that knowledge is  become curse for human. When I study Dr. Fosters I come to know that he is hungry for knowledge. He was so knowledgeable person on that time. But how knowledge leads him towards his death and tragic end of his life . Knowledge is something good but too much knowledge is like curse. Also in Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’ Eve and Adam also suffers, because they eaten fruit of knowledge.

            Literature is not all about aesthetic delight. Some time it create enormous storm in our mind. It forces us to think about the matters which are represented in the literary works. For example when we read ‘African literature’ we cannot get aesthetic delight, because it comes out from the hate and disguise of African people. Through the African literature we come to know about history, is all about powerful and victorious people. Sometime history is also wrong. We have image of Africa is from the eyes of British people. It is very terrible and wrong image of African people which are given by colonizer. It is very important to know that who is writer of history and ‘according to whom’; it is like “Mind is important organ of body, - according to Mind”. Same thing happened with African people also. Literature is not all about fantasy and imagination but it also shows reality of human life.

            How can I forget to talk about those literary theory and literary criticism. It plays vital role in changing process of me and my mind set. I like criticism and it is important part of literature. Not only literature but also literary criticism touches me a lot. Like Derrida’s   theory of Deconstruction, Plato, Aristotle, Northrop Fry and his Archetypal criticism. I have studied some of this theory in B.A. also but when in M.A. Dr. Dilip Barad teach all this theory, it started changing my mind rather I can say breaking the cover of so called culture, religious and confirmed beliefs, which are imposed on my mind. “Breaking of Ice of my mind". It is very important part of my life.

            Now I realized that literature and criticism makes me different from other people. It takes me far from other people. Now I can’t enjoy anything like movies and dramas or any event. I never see it without any theory, I started applying theory on movie even in life also. Some time I also feel that knowledge is curse. For example when I and my friends have attended seminar on women empowerment, and what they are speaking is like absurd it is to terrible for us. And other girl from other department goes no enjoying all this silly things in the session. What me and my friends feel that  they all are "sheeple" kind of girl. When someone talking about god I stared laugh on it, because I remember the description of ‘Hanuman’(God) in book “White Tiger” by Arvind Adiga.

            After all, it was wonderful journey of literature until now. And it makes me different from other people. Forced me to think different from ordinary people.

What I think about 'Sense of an Ending'

The novel ‘Sense of an Ending’ by Julian Barn, it is psychological thriller novel. There is use of the word “Blood Money” is used by Veronica for the money given by Sarah Ford to Tony Webster. Tony was not able to understand why Sarah has given money to him so he asked Veronica. Veronica gives reply “Blood Money”. For Veronica it is blood money. Indirectly she says that you have given money for doing something wrong. Because Tony, in letter suggest Adrian to asked Veronica’s mother. Adrian goes and meets her mother. Sarah Ford gives money to Tony for saying thank to Tony. But Veronica’s relation is died because of her mother’s affair with Adrian. Her life was spoiled that’s why she called it ‘Blood money’. Here another secret is revealed that why Sarah Ford have dairy of Adrian, with her. Tony was confused that why Mrs. Sarah Ford have Adrian’s dairy? Then he understands that Adrian and Mrs. Sarah Ford are the parents of Junior Adrian. That’s why she knows that in their last day Adrian was happy and she have Adrian’s diary.

  The equation Means b =baby or young Adrian, s = Sarah, V= Veronica, a= Adrian.

b = s – v x/+ a1 means, Young Adrian, b is a result of Sarah's relationship with Adrian (x/+) here broken relation of Adrian and Veronica (-). The baby is result of negative relation of Adrian and Mrs. Sarah Ford. 

a2 + v + a1 X s = b?  a2 means Anthony ( Adrian call Tony with his full name Anthony) It says relationship of Tony with Veronica, and her relationship with Adrian. And Adrian and Sarah's relationship multiplies by ‘b’ the birth of baby or young Adrian. Instate of Veronica and Adrian the baby was of Mrs. Sarah Ford and Adrian. Adrian wish that, the baby is from him and Veronica.

It is right that Tony is unreliable narrator. Because it is memory novel and he also says that I can’t remember thing in chronological way. He is unreliable, because ‘He cannot understand things properly’. So, what he narrating it was his understanding of the events, that’s why he is not reliable narrator and we cannot believe in his narration. He himself flossy fields his first narration that, Veronica is suffering from his statement which is written by him in letter. And junior Adrian is child of Veronica and Adrian. First he also says that Adrian suicide is philosophical one. But at the end of novel we found that he himself says that Adrian’s death is not philosophical but he tries to escape from reality.       

Da Vinci Code

       Dan Brown says that this book, ‘Da Vinci Code’ is not anti-religious book. He says that it is ‘an entertaining story that promotes spiritual discussion and debate’. In entire novel we found that there is everything goes with anti-Christianity. Even Sophie Neuve also not believe in all those things and doubting on Christianity. At some part professor Langdon also not believe in Christianity. But at the end of the novel or movie we found that Langdon says that ‘’christ is with me’, it seems like in his entire journey he feels that Jesus is with him, and help him. At some level it is also true, when we think about Sophie as a bloodline of Jesus, then it is possible. She helps Langdon in his journey. Above sentence of Langdon reestablish Christian.

·       From the beginning of the human life we found there is always suppression of women in society, literature as well as in films also. There is objectification of woman in everywhere. From the Bible to paradise lost of Milton and Da Vinci Code, there is sup ration of woman is found in literature also. When we look at portrayal of ‘Ophelia’ in Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet, we found that her character is much suppressed. She cannot give appropriate space. There is also some objectification of her in the movie. Elizabeth of Marry Shelley’s Frankenstein also there is suppression of woman as same we found in Ophelia’s character. Eve in paradise lost, Milton and Heater Pryen in Scarlet letter they both have given some argumentative voice they both are stand against society. Hester is stand agents society but she is also out casted from the society. Milton gave some argumentative voice to Eve. In the character of Hermione and Sophie Neuve this both women are modern women. In the film we found that they both have given voice and represent as knowledgeable and intellectual girl. But still at the end of the episode all credit goes to men. In the beginning of the movie ‘Da Vinci Code’ we found that Sophie is shown as powerful and knowledgeable. But when it comes to end power goes to man, man overpowering to woman. No doubt that in the last two movies they also care for famine sacredness. In modern literature women are presented in batter way rather than past literature and movies.     

·       In Hindi movies we also found some similar kind of things related with god and religious. We have film P.K. and O.M.G. those two movies are similar kind of movies which are also controversial because they both represent negative side of god. In the movie O.M.G. we found that protagonist registered case on god. He stared asking question on god. in P.K. movie religious guru use the remote control of p.k. as ‘Ashirvad’ of god. In the both movie we found that indirectly they try to say that, because of fear there is believer of god. There is also fear of god among the mind of god. In movie ‘Life of Pi’ there is also representation of god. Pi Patel also says that he feel god with him during his journey. One similar thing in all movies that in entire movie all protagonists are anti-religious. At the end they all are became believer of god. As same in case of Swamivivekanand that he was very intellectual person and very knowledgeable person, but at last what he do? He also goes with god.           

                      

Harry Potter

My View on Harry Potter (book and Film also) 

    

First of all what is children's literature: children’s literature is good quality trade books for children. Harry Potter is children book some people might suggest “children’s book” but it is doubtful that, they are right. Because Harry Potter books are appeal to many children but is children’s books really a genre of literature – apart from preschool fantasy books.

            Perhaps a detective story for children is not as complicated as one for adults but is still a detective story, and it is like that the child who loves such stories will grow into an adult. Who loves such only on a higher level but we cannot classify harry potter primarily as children’s literature book but as fantasy literature.

Harry potter is interesting book and every part is gives moral lesson to us. For example love, family friends and relationship. Children literature is like sweet layer on bitter pill, same children’s literature is for children but deep satire on society. In children’s literature hero is generally in green shade, it means hero is child and immature, innocent, trustworthy and undoubting. And villain is more mature.

When children are watching this movie, they only enjoyed it. But whereas ta mature person watching this movie they started analyzing it, started looking it with different theory. Harry potter is horror books but children lot of enjoy. End of the novel is happy ending, and children’s literature. And it is also a kind of realistic literature, because it deals with the many them like love, death, faith, loyalty, relationship and many other things. There are so many theories which are applied on this book, so it is kind of realistic literature.

·        Feminism deals with the social and political rights and equality of women cultural, economic and social freedom of women. In this book we found that female character have given some voice and power. For example Hermione is more knowledgeable than both other (male) character. One day Ron says that without Hermione they cannot survive, but Ron says to Harry that do not told her about it. It is also anti-feminist view. Harry’ smother is also more powerful than her husband. Even most of the horcruxes are destroyed by male characters, but point is that they are unable to find all those horceuxes without her help. But at last credit goes to man. No doubt that Hermione given some voice but not given appropriate space to her which she deserves. When we look at the end we found that at some level it is anti-feminist book.

·        Here in this novel we found Racism and issue of pure blood. In the last book we found that so many references of muggle blood and half blood and pure blood.Main protagonist are half blood and villain is also half blood. We also compare ‘pure blood’ with ‘white people’, ‘half-blood’ with ‘mulatto’ and ‘muggle’ with ‘black people’. Throughout the reading of this novel we also can says that it doesn’t make any different to your magical power, whether you muggle blood or pure blood. It’s your power and knowledge, for example Hermione is muggle blood but she is more powerful then Ron, who belongs to ‘pure blood family’.
